Update - January 2012

It has been a while since we updated Lily’s status. Getting to Lily especially while she was in school was not an easy task. But here is a little update.

Lily has just completed her “O” levels exams and is awaiting results. She is very positive about her chances of passing her exams although it was a struggle for her in the last months leading to her exams.

Her epilepsy has progressed to a point that it is almost debilitating. She was suffering at least two or three seizures a week in the last month before her exams. While we thought this was probably due to exam preparation related stress, the seizures have actually continued well after the exams were over which means that is now a higher level of attack. For now, we are going to have to focus more on trying to help sort out her health issues as she definitely cannot do much with such poor health. At the same time, Chris, Lily’s mother has not been well. Apparently a sharp tree branch stubbed her right hand and because there was no immediate medical treatment, the wound became septic to a point that she almost lost her hand. Our understanding is that it is taking really long for her hand to heal- it has been about five months now! Chris’ health has affected Lily very much and Lily now is thinking of looking for a job so that she can take over the responsibility of looking after her mother as her grandmother is getting weaker and weaker and cannot adequately look after Chris and her children.  We definitely know that Lily is not ready for this responsibility and her health complicates matters even more.  We are worried for her but for now, helping get her health issues sorted out is a priority.

Your Opinion Counts

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf seems to be doing very well at the helm of power in Liberia- winning a Nobel Peace Prize! Do you think it is time for female African Heads of States?

No, most women would be just like their male counter parts
Yes, it is about time. Let the women give it a try
